About Tamra
Locavore, eat local, these are expressions that no one had heard of a few years ago. Now they are becoming
household terms, at least in my house. Here, eat local means from my own backyard. I started this site
because I love cooking and growing seasonal foods. And I want to encourage you to do the same, or at least to
think about who grew your food and how far it traveled to your plate.
Seasonal eating and local eating go hand and hand. My family has been on a seasonal eating journey for 12 years,
since we first joined a CSA. If you eat everything the farmer provides each week, it's an amazing learning
experience. You learn about vegetables you have never heard of and you learn when each vegetable is in season.
But most importantly, you learn how to build meals around what you have in the fridge or garden.
I am not sure which I enjoy more, cooking or gardening. While my priority is growing plants I can eat, I love all
plants, except turf grass. One day I envision my one acre yard so full of plants, that there is no room for a lawn.
So while this site is devoted to cooking and growing food, I occasionally blog about other plants.
I cook and garden year round in Nashville Tennessee, zone 6. The photo shows my 2000 square foot vegetable garden in the spring of 2008, which
includes a few annual flowers that the deer would eat if planted elsewhere.
